Taeil is heading back to court for his appeal trial after being sentenced earlier this year.
The former NCT member’s appeal hearing is set for September 17 at the Seoul High Court. Taeil was convicted on charges of aggravated quasi rape stemming from a June 2023 incident involving an intoxicated woman.
Aggravated rape under Korean law involves using a weapon or multiple perpetrators attacking someone unconscious or unable to resist. Taeil was accused of assaulting the woman alongside acquaintances.
His legal team admitted to the charges but argued the act was not premeditated. Despite this, the court sentenced him to three years and six months in prison. Additional rulings included mandatory completion of a sexual violence treatment program, public disclosure of his identity, and a five-year ban from working with children or teens.
Before sentencing, Taeil said in his final statement he would treat leniency as “the very last chance” of his life. The court rejected his plea, and he was taken into custody immediately after the sentencing.
