Bang Eun Mi is making headlines after revealing her drastic career shift from model to shaman. The former fashion model debuted in 1992, capturing attention for her “Western” features. But just four years later, she vanished from the spotlight.
In a recent episode of MBN‘s Exclusive World, Bang Eun Mi shared her heart-wrenching story. After suffering paralysis on the left side of her face, she was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy. Despite numerous treatments, her condition did not improve.
Feeling hopeless, she sought help from a shaman, who claimed she had a case of sinbyeong—a spiritual illness connected to becoming a shaman. The shaman warned her of potential harm to her son if she didn’t embrace her fate.
“I was told that if I don’t accept my fate as a shaman, something irreversible could happen. They said, ‘If you have children, even your child could suffer something terrible.’”

At just one year old, her son motivated her to undergo the shin-naerim initiation ritual. After the initiation, she had to separate from her son for three years to fully embrace her new path. Those years were described as the “most painful years” of her life.
Now, with over two decades of experience, Bang Eun Mi runs a successful shaman business, offering spiritual consultations in multiple languages, including English.
