The Fate of the Miss Korea Winner Labeled “Fat And Ugly” by Netizens

What Happened To The Miss Korea Winner Who Netizens Deemed Too "Fat And Ugly"?

Kim Soo Min is facing backlash after winning Miss Korea 2018. The former beauty queen received intense hate online for her appearance following her crowning.

Kim Soo Min, 22 at the time, won $45,000 in cash prizes and an additional $45,000 in scholarships from the Miss Korea contest. She was studying journalism at Dickinson College, aiming to become an international journalist.

Despite being a landmark winner, comments flooded in questioning her qualifications for the title. Many netizens took to her Instagram, calling her “average” and “not Miss Korea worthy.” The hate was so relentless that she temporarily made her account private.

“Honestly, my own sister is prettier than she is,” one commenter wrote.
“She looks like my next door neighbor,” another said.

Facing this criticism, Kim Soo Min wept during an interview with Asian Boss but expressed hope her win could inspire healthier beauty standards.

“I want to set that healthy standard on stage for better body confidence,” she stated.

After holding the title until the next competition, she returned to the U.S. and graduated from Columbia University in 2022. Now, she works as a journalist for BBC at their London headquarters, fulfilling her ambitions.

In addition to her journalism career, Kim shares lifestyle content on her social media, showcasing her life in London.

Despite the immense online hate, Kim Soo Min is thriving!
