Kang Seung Yoon, Kim Jin Woo, and Jaejoong discuss the trainee environments at YG and SM.

Kang Seung Yoon, Kim Jin Woo, & Jaejoong compare the trainee cultures of YG & SM

On this week’s episode of Jaefriends, members of WINNER, Kang Seung Yoon and Kim Jin Woo, joined host Jaejoong to discuss YG Entertainment’s unique trainee culture.

Jaejoong inquired about the hip-hop mentality YG instills in its trainees. The guests confirmed, stating, "That’s definitely true. You can tell just by looking at the way YG trainees dress." They emphasized that while many entertainment companies enforce strict dress codes, YG allows trainees the freedom to express themselves through their clothing choices.

Kim Jin Woo questioned whether other companies impose such regulations, to which Jaejoong responded, explaining that traditional firms often advise trainees against dressing too stylishly, urging them to focus on personal development instead.

In contrast, Kang Seung Yoon noted that at YG, failure to dress stylishly would lead to comments like, "Why do you look so unstylish?" This encouragement drove them to explore fashion and enhance their appearance.

Jaejoong concluded by sharing insights from his own experience, highlighting how companies typically assess trainees in a raw state before beginning to introduce styling once potential is recognized.
