An ex-girlfriend of a male idol has been sentenced to prison for attempting to blackmail him with a sex tape.
The 12th Criminal Division of the Seoul Eastern District Court sentenced “A” to one year in prison and two years’ probation for violating the Special Act on Punishment and Sexual Crimes.
Details of the case:
- “A” threatened the victim, identified as “B” (26 years old), stating, “Stop being an idol, the only thing left is the military.”
- Their relationship lasted from November 2020 to March 2022.
- The first threat occurred on December 10, 2021, through a fake social media account of the victim.
- The second threat came on January 4, 2022, with aggressive messages demanding a response.
In one message, “I’ll upload all our photos and tag you, ok? If you don’t talk to me, I will go all out.”
Additional offenses:
- “A” also damaged the victim’s phone during an argument on December 31, 2021.
The court expressed that “A”’s actions aimed to block the victim’s future in the industry. The victim reported significant mental distress, especially due to his celebrity status.
Despite the severity of the case, the court noted that “A” admitted her guilt, expressed remorse, and reached an agreement with the victim, who plans to withdraw the complaint.
She had not distributed the footage and had voluntarily deleted it before the ruling.
In a noteworthy decision, the court exempted the disclosure of “A”’s personal information, citing her status as a first-time offender.
