Red Velvet’s Seulgi revealed she suffered from a vocal disorder during an appearance on Lee Mujin’s YouTube series Limousine Service on June 3.
Seulgi showed off a piano arrangement of Irene & Seulgi’s new title track “TILT” and sang snippets from various genres, proving her “all-rounder” reputation.
She trained at SM for about seven years but didn’t get a call immediately after auditioning.

“I didn’t get the call right after the audition, but got a call a year later. I thought, ‘Did I lack confidence?’ so I went to acting school and thought about trying again.”
She surprised fans by opening up about her vocal struggles.
Seulgi
“When I was young, my voice was lovely and thin. But when my teacher changed and I had no lessons for a while, I started liking pop singers like Whitney Houston and Beyoncé, who had fuller and deeper voices.”
Imitating those singers led to making the wrong sounds, causing a vocal disorder.
Seulgi
“I developed a vocal disorder because of that. I couldn’t even sing a single word properly. My voice shook when I greeted people.
I had no choice but to fix this, so I checked how my voice shook and continued to study on my own on where the sound should be placed.”
Irene & Seulgi will start their Asia tour with a concert in Seoul on June 14-15.
