“Boys Planet 2” Details Prompt Skepticism and Discomfort Among Netizens

Details Of "Boys Planet 2" Already Have Netizens Cringing And Skeptical

ZEROBASEONE and Mnet are facing backlash over plans for Boys Planet 2. The survival show’s new format has sparked major controversy among fans and netizens.

The show kicks off July 17, with some members from smaller “nugu” boy groups suddenly going on hiatus — fans quickly guessing it’s to join Boys Planet 2. Unlike the first season, trainees are now split into Planet K (Korean trainees) and Planet C (Chinese trainees). The top 7 from each team will debut as one 14-member global group.

Fans are already skeptical about WakeOne’s treatment of foreign trainees. Many voice concerns that Chinese members might be blocked from opportunities back home once they debut under WakeOne.

Wakeone better not hinder Chinese members any job opportunities in China, knowing how they’re gonna treat non-Korean members badly once they debut.

Criticism isn’t stopping with nationality issues. The concept also uses the word “Alpha” to describe the group’s energy, which quickly turned heads — and not in a good way.

The term “Alpha” is loaded with connotations tied to fanfiction Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics. Fans are roasting the idea, calling it cringe and overdone.

omega x, &team, xg and zb1 already exists how many more abo/wolf-coded groups does this industry need

Fan doubts run deep over Mnet’s ability to debut a stable 14-member global group. Some point to past missteps with uneven line distribution and favoritism.

As the July premiere looms, Boys Planet 2 is under the microscope for these divisive choices. Fans are watching closely, bracing for a potentially messy run.
