Doyoung and Jun Hyun Moo face backlash for ‘immature’ and ‘misogynistic’ remarks on MBC’s I Live Alone
The controversy began after the latest episode of MBC’s I Live Alone aired, featuring NCT’s Doyoung and TV host Jun Hyun Moo. Both were slammed online for leaving dishes unwashed and making dismissive remarks about house chores, sparking accusations of being immature and even misogynistic.
During the episode, Doyoung was seen at his parents’ house, cooking instant noodles but leaving the dirty dishes stacked in the sink. He casually hummed,
“If I leave them like this, Mom will clean up for me.”
Other cast members like SHINee’s Key and comedian Im Woo Il laughed it off. But Jun Hyun Moo shocked everyone by admitting he purposely leaves dishes piled up at his own home “when I know my mom will be visiting.”
Jun Hyun Moo claimed,
“My mom knows how to clean off grease like a pro,”
insisting his mother’s dishwashing skills were superior to dishwashers. This led Key and others to criticize him harshly.
Key: “He’s unbelievable. This is corporal punishment level behavior. This is at least 20 slaps.”
Im Woo Il: “You’re like… the most ungrateful person I’ve spoken to in a while.”
Park Na Rae: “Seriously. You’re such an ingrate.”
The clip quickly went viral on online communities like theqoo, fueling outrage with posts gaining over 900 comments. Viewers called out both stars for neglecting basic cleanliness and for perpetuating sexist attitudes.
Comments included:
- “He’d just sit there waiting until his wife starts doing everything.”
- “To Korean men, women are just home appliances.”
- “Isn’t Jun Hyun Moo’s mom at grandma age? Making her do dishes like this is infuriating.”
- “If he gave his mom ₩100 million KRW ($73,500 USD) every time she visited, maybe I could understand.”
- “Dishwashers these days are super advanced—why not just use one?”
- “This is just messed up. What’s with guys in their 20s nowadays?”
- “They’re being 100% serious. Not a joke at all.”
Some users labeled the men as “typical Han-nam,” a derogatory term for patriarchal or misogynistic Korean men.
Others defended the stars, saying it’s none of the viewers’ business or that they probably hire cleaning help, but the majority expressed strong disappointment.
