NewJeans is facing a crippling legal hit from ADOR.
On May 30, the 52nd Civil Affairs Department of Seoul Central District Court ruled that NewJeans (NJZ) cannot carry out activities without agency ADOR’s consultation.
If all members violate this ruling, they face a massive ₩1.00 billion KRW (about $729,000 USD) fine per violation. They also must cover ADOR’s legal fees.
This is an unprecedented amount in the entertainment industry.
The court addressed NewJeans’ efforts to release songs and perform under the new name “NJZ”:
“Even after the provisional injunction, they violated the obligations, and it seems like they will continue to violate it in the future, so it is necessary to order indirect enforcement to enforce the performance of the obligations by the provisional injunction.”
Legal experts call this a “strong decision to increase the injunction’s effectiveness.”
The court’s harsh stance sends a clear warning to celebrities ignoring inked contracts to pursue independent actions. The ongoing legal costs and penalties put intense pressure on NewJeans’ next moves.
