Hwang Seongbin of 82MAJOR faces backlash over past SoundCloud likes and on-stage diss
82MAJOR’s Hwang Seongbin apologized in a handwritten letter after controversy exploded over his old SoundCloud activity and a recent concert comment.
Seongbin sparked outrage when it was revealed he liked a rap song mocking former South Korean President Moon Jae In. Fans took it as a political statement, triggering heated backlash.
He addressed this directly:
"When I was a student, just beginning my journey in music, I showed simple interest in a particular artist’s songs by liking each new release. However, I now realize that I acted carelessly without fully understanding the messages and meanings those songs carried. That was clearly a shortcoming on my part, and in hindsight, a very thoughtless action."

Soon after, Seongbin came under fire again for an insensitive rap during a concert. He dissed a fellow member by referencing his Memorial Day and Liberation Day runs, asking, “Are you going to become an independence fighter?” Many found the comment uncomfortable and offensive.
He admitted fault:
"Additionally, during a concert, I performed a rap with the intention of highlighting a unique side of one of our members. However, I failed to fully consider the weight of the words used, and I ended up making people uncomfortable in the process."

Seongbin concluded with a full apology to fans and promised to improve:
"To the fans who have supported me, and to everyone who has cared for our team, I offer my heartfelt apologies for the disappointment I’ve caused.
As a singer, I am truly ashamed and have come to realize just how much responsibility comes with every word and action I take.
I will take this incident as a moment of deep reflection and strive to become someone who always acts with more thought and care.
Once again, I sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable or hurt by my actions.
I am truly sorry."
