Jennie of BLACKPINK is celebrating a legal victory against a man who falsely claimed to be her biological father. A South Korean court ruled that the allegations were entirely fabricated and ordered the destruction of all related publications.
The controversy began when a man, identified as A, published an AI-generated novel that incorrectly stated he was Jennie’s father. The book featured her name and logo, sparking rumors online about Jennie’s background, suggesting she hailed from a wealthy family. These rumors have turned out to be completely unfounded.
According to court documents from Woman Sense, the Uijeongbu District Court Goyang Branch found that there was no evidence backing A’s claims apart from his own assertions. The court noted:
"There is no supporting evidence for the defendant’s claim aside from his own statements. Meanwhile, the plaintiff’s official family registry clearly identifies another man as her father."
After the publication gained traction, Jennie responded swiftly. On September 6, 2024 KST, her agency, OA Entertainment, announced plans to take legal action against A. By December 24, 2024 KST, OA filed an injunction to prevent further distribution of the book, targeting both A and the publishing company B.
The court ruled in favor of Jennie, stating A‘s actions caused false information and reputational harm. All existing copies of the book must be destroyed, and A is barred from mentioning Jennie on any platforms, including social media.
Although the court acknowledged the violation of Jennie’s personal rights, it did not impose fines since there were no property claims involved. The defendants are required to cover all legal costs.
This ruling highlights the severe consequences of impersonating public figures and spreading misinformation, especially in an era where AI content blends fiction with reality.
