Former NCT Member Taeil Acknowledges Sexual Assault Charges and Requests Leniency

Former NCT Member Taeil Admits to Sexual Assault Charges, Pleads for Leniency

Taeil is facing serious legal trouble. The former NCT member has admitted to all charges related to the sexual assault of an intoxicated woman. Prosecutors are pushing for a seven-year prison sentence during his first trial.

On June 18, the 26th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court commenced the initial hearing for Taeil and two co-defendants, indicted on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (Aggravated Rape).

Taeil appeared in court in a black shirt and thick-rimmed glasses, maintaining a calm demeanor while surrounded by a few supportive fans. When asked about his identity, he stated, “I was expelled from my music career and am currently working part-time at a restaurant.”

When questioned about the allegations, he said simply, “I admit everything.”

His legal team shared, “He deeply acknowledges the gravity of this case. He has reached a settlement with the victim and is undergoing sexual violence prevention training and counseling.” They requested leniency, citing his past diligence as an artist and current struggles after a car accident.

The incident took place on June 23, 2024, around 2:33 a.m. Taeil and his co-defendants allegedly met a Chinese tourist at a bar in Itaewon. After drinking, they are accused of taking her to one of their residences and gang-raping her while she was incapable of consent.

The prosecution requested a seven-year sentence for each defendant, mandatory completion of a sex offender treatment program, and personal information disclosure for ten years. Prosecutors emphasized the crime was premeditated and criticized the defendants’ claims of voluntary surrender.

In his final statement, Taeil expressed remorse, saying, “I deeply regret the harm caused… If granted leniency, I will treat this as the final chance in my life.”

As he exited the courtroom, he remained silent, ignoring questions from the press.

The case first emerged in June 2024, leading to Taeil’s expulsion from NCT as public outrage grew over him continuing group activities during the investigation.

A verdict is expected on July 10 at 2 p.m. by the same court.
