Baby DONT Cry is facing backlash over their debut MV teaser. The PSY-founded PNation girl group, produced by (G)I-DLE’s Soyeon, dropped the first teaser for their single “F Girl” on June 20 KST.
The teaser shows a member placing a small packet on a store counter, which looks suspiciously like a condom wrapper. She then opens it to reveal candy and eats it. Fans quickly noticed the candy packet’s controversial design and the provocative concept.
The problem? Three of Baby DONT Cry’s four members are minors. Combined with the song title “F Girl,” fans are calling out the inappropriate messaging for such a young group.
Twitter reactions fired off fast:
“3/4 members are minors btw”
— @withmyaespa“3 minors, condom wrapper, song called f girl…”
— @proudtokki22“noooo the condom is an intentional artistic message” ok why does a minor filled group have to portray that message
— @YUJ1NER“These concepts only work with adults”
— @blueraspberrya1
Criticism also targeted Soyeon, who had a key producing role. Some questioned her involvement in the concept:
“What disgusts me the most is how her fans are still making feminist theories… Calling people perverted when the song name, teaser and first mv were flat out weird and sickening.”
— @yunarve“soyeon weird as fuck for this actually”
— @DI0RJ0HNNY
Others defended her, saying she likely only handled the music, not the visuals.
The teaser is drawing heat on all fronts. Fans are calling out PNation, the production team, and everyone involved for pushing an adult-themed concept on a mostly underage group.
“F Girl” drops June 23 at 6 PM KST. The controversy is only gaining traction. PNation has yet to respond.
