QWER is facing controversy over their debut M Countdown performance on June 19.
The girl group, which debuted in 2023, drew mixed reactions thanks to members’ pasts. Some were previously labeled as “Sexy” content creators, sparking debate online.
Soon after their first music show stage with “COMEBACK,” netizens clashed over the image the group projects. Critics said the vibe felt like “female cam streamer,” hard to shake despite the official broadcast platform.
Others pushed back, saying idol fans are no different in chasing exposure and sexual appeal. The divide runs deep on Nate Pann, where most of the hate bubbles up.
“Why does it still feel like a female cam streamer vibe even though it’s broadcast on Mnet? Getting rid of that prejudice is really hard.”
“I don’t care about them since I don’t like streaming culture anyway, but I find it funny how people think idols they like (who appear on music shows) are any different. Everyone’s desperate for exposure and sexual appeal—be it Waterbomb or upper body reveals—and you’re the ones consuming it all, lol. I’m not saying it’s bad, but it’s weird how people act like this one is dirty and that one is pure. Same difference.”
“What’s more surprising is people asking why others dislike QWER. Do you think idol fans would really like girls who strip and shake it just for money? It’s wild that this even needs to be explained.”
“You can pretend they’re shady and underground only in your echo chamber, but in reality, they’re the people’s pick.”
Some fans believe the backlash is mostly a Nate Pann phenomenon.
“Honestly, it’s only on Nate Pann where QWER gets hate. I’d say about 90% of the general public supports them. If they go on talk shows like You Quiz or Radio Star and open up, all the forced hate and misunderstandings would probably disappear.”
“Their visuals are insane lol. All four of them have that look that especially appeals to guys.”
The controversy remains active as QWER navigates new exposure amid divided opinions about their pasts and image.
