SUGA of BTS Donates ₩5 Billion to Establish Autism Treatment Center in His Honor

BTS’s SUGA donates ₩5 billion to establish the autism treatment center in his name

SUGA is making headlines for a groundbreaking donation to support children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

On June 23, Severance Hospital announced the opening of the Min Yoongi Treatment Center. The center will offer specialized treatment focusing on language and psychological therapies. It held its groundbreaking ceremony at Jejungwon Hall.

SUGA has a long history of charitable work, especially around mental health. After meeting with Professor Chun Geun-ah, a leading child psychiatrist, SUGA decided to take action. He pledged a massive ₩5 billion donation, the largest ever given by an artist to Severance or Yonsei Medical Center.

From late 2023 to early 2024, SUGA collaborated with Professor Chun to develop a music-based program named MIND. This program aims to use music to help children with ASD build social skills.

MIND stands for:

  • Music – Enhancing interaction through musical experiences
  • Interaction – Facilitating communication
  • Network – Learning social dynamics
  • Diversity – Embracing uniqueness

SUGA participated directly in weekend sessions. He engaged children with instruments, promoting emotional expression and peer cooperation. The feedback was positive, with many children showing improvement in communication and social interactions.

The Min Yoongi Treatment Center plans to expand the MIND program and provide long-term care options. The center will also include therapies like ABA and speech therapy.

Professor Chun expressed gratitude, stating:

“Beyond financial support, SUGA’s sincerity and consistent volunteer work over the past several months have been deeply inspiring. His dedication to children with ASD is truly commendable.”

SUGA shared his thoughts, saying:

“Over the past seven months… it’s been a blessing to be involved in the treatment process for children with ASD. I’ll continue to support efforts that help more children become part of our community.”
