Netflix is facing backlash from Korean netizens over its new merchandise for the animated film KPop Demon Hunters.
The film follows a fictional K-Pop girl group who double as demon slayers. Netflix released official merch including graphic tees, tote bags, hoodies, and accessories.
Prices shocked fans: tees go for ₩43,000 KRW (~$31.40 USD) and hats reach ₩62,000 KRW (~$45.20 USD).
Despite hype abroad, many Korean fans slammed the designs as “tacky,” “outdated,” and “too Western.” Critics say the merch mixes K-pop clichés with Western cartoon styles, missing the mark.
“Absolutely out of touch.”
“They’re outta trend. Revise the merch and come back.”
“If you guys want to sell it at high prices, make them pretty at least so that we’d want to open our wallets. Don’t just put out any old thing.”
“Huh, how tacky.”
“Plays to Western tastes…”
The controversy began after Netflix dropped the merch line, and Korean netizens quickly voiced their disappointment online. International fans remain excited, but the split reactions show the merch is not landing well at home.
