Shin Se Kyung’s cyberbully faces rare 2-year prison sentence request
Actress Shin Se Kyung’s agency revealed on June 26 that the prosecution has requested a two-year prison sentence for the person behind ongoing cyberbullying against the actress.
The defendant has anonymously spread threats, slander, false info, and insults targeting Shin Se Kyung, her fans, family, and acquaintances. The agency says this caused severe mental distress to the actress and those close to her.
The perpetrator is currently arrested and awaiting their first trial. It’s rare for a cyberbullying case in the entertainment world to lead to such extreme legal action.
At the trial, the defendant’s lawyer asked for leniency. The defendant admitted all charges and reportedly works a part-time job 14 hours a week while living in seclusion.
The agency stated:
“We have secured additional malicious posts and evidence related to the malicious commenter, and we plan to respond to similar cases in the future with the same standards.”
They also added:
“In order to prevent the recurrence of innocent people suffering due to someone’s distorted desires, perpetrators must be responsible for their actions, no matter how long it takes. The valuable tips from fans have been a great help.”
The situation remains under close watch as the case proceeds.
