Shinsegae Heiress Annie Unveils Conditions for Idol Debut: “I Needed to Enter Ivy League, It Took Me a Decade”

Annie and Daesung

Annie from ALLDAY PROJECT is facing controversy after revealing her family’s strict conditions for her idol debut on Daesung’s YouTube show, ZIP DAESUNG.

The segment aired on June 27 and featured the co-ed group ALLDAY PROJECT. Annie, the granddaughter of Shinsegae Group’s Chairwoman Lee Myung Hee, shared that it took her 10 years to get her family’s approval to pursue a music career.

“It took me 10 years to get their approval. At first, they said absolutely not. But after I kept insisting, they gave me a final deal. If I got into an Ivy League school, they would let me debut,” Annie said.

This revelation has sparked discussions online. Did her family’s wealth influence her success?

She fulfilled their condition by getting into Columbia University. Afterward, she debuted in ALLDAY PROJECT under The Black Label, managed by producer Teddy.

Annie also revealed that her family has a deep connection to K-pop, enjoying tracks from YG Entertainment artists like Big Bang and BLACKPINK.

“My mom watched [Big Bang’s] ‘Fantastic Baby’ so many times that she memorized every accessory in the video,” she added.

ZIP DAESUNG airs every Friday at 6 PM KST on Daesung’s official YouTube channel.
