Song Ha Yoon denies all school bullying allegations made last year amid mounting controversy.
Her legal team released a statement insisting the accuser, Ms. Oh, fabricated the claims without evidence. They confirmed ongoing legal actions against Ms. Oh.
Actress Song Ha Yoon Addresses School Violence Allegations
On July 3, KST, Ms. Oh fired back with a detailed counter-statement online. She confirmed being a U.S. citizen and denied avoiding Korean police, citing the high costs of international travel for investigations.
I am currently a U.S. citizen residing legally in the United States as an overseas Korean. In connection with the recent incident, I have already submitted a written statement in good faith at the request of the Korean police, along with a copy of my U.S. passport to prove my citizenship.
The reason I have not officially renounced my Korean nationality is because the nationality renunciation process is not automatically linked between Korea and the U.S. Even after acquiring another nationality, Korean citizenship does not automatically lapse. In practice, one must visit the Korean consulate in person and spend at least an entire day to complete a separate report. I did not feel it necessary to take a day off from work and dedicate a full day to visit the consulate solely to renounce my nationality. Realistically, there have been no disadvantages or obligations, and therefore I have remained listed as a Korean national purely out of administrative convenience, which is unrelated to the current incident.
The last time I visited Korea was in 2017, and I have been legally residing in the United States since then.
Despite this, I, as the victim in this case, was advised by the Korean police to appear in person. However, as I am currently staying abroad long-term, appearing in Korea would require me to bear all costs, including airfare, accommodation, and local expenses. It is excessive and unreasonable to expect a victim to travel to Korea at their own expense for questioning.
Ms. Oh also challenged Song’s claim that her school transfer was voluntary.
Additionally, regarding Song Ha Yoon’s past school transfer, I want to clarify that Banpo High School and Gujeong High School belong to the same school district, making a simple transfer within the district impossible unless it involved disciplinary action. If it were not related to school violence, such a transfer would not have occurred. This supports the inference that the transfer was not voluntary but rather due to a school violence issue.
While Song Ha Yoon’s side claims to have filed a complaint against me for spreading false information, I have never fabricated, distorted, or disseminated false facts.
Finally, Ms. Oh accused Song Ha Yoon of trying to cover up her past and threatened a counter-suit.
I believe that Song Ha-yoon’s attempt to use this case to cover up her past misconduct while turning the tables on me raises the possibility of a false accusation, and I plan to review this matter legally.
I am also currently in contact with a Korean law firm and am preparing to take necessary civil and criminal actions to protect my rights, if needed.
Once again, I emphasize that my statements are based on public interest, the exercise of my right to defense, and factual claims, and I strongly urge Song Ha-yoon’s side to immediately stop their unreasonable legal complaints and distorted public narratives.
If necessary, I will carefully consider a legal response for false accusation charges as well.
