Woman Jailed for Issuing Graphic Acid Attack Threats Against Well-Known Actress

Woman Sentenced To Prison For Making Graphic Acid Attack Threats Against Popular Actress

Shin Se Kyung targeted by woman making over 450 threats, sentenced to prison

A 35-year-old woman identified as Ms. A was sentenced to eight months in prison by a Seoul Eastern District Court on July 4 for harassing actress Shin Se Kyung online.

Between June and August 2024, Ms. A posted more than 450 threatening and defamatory messages across multiple online communities dedicated to Shin Se Kyung and her dramas.

The threats included sexual, physical, family-related insults, and even an acid attack threat. These posts caused significant psychological trauma to the actress, according to Judge Lee Ho Dong.

The court found Ms. A guilty of criminal threats and defamation. Prosecutors sought a 2-year sentence but the court issued a lighter penalty, noting that none of the threats were physically carried out.

“The defendant’s actions caused significant psychological trauma to the actress,” Judge Lee Ho Dong stated.

Authorities are treating the case as a serious crime due to the volume and severity of threats against Shin Se Kyung.
