Arden Cho is facing major buzz with her upcoming Netflix film, K-Pop Demon Hunters. The actress, who portrays Rumi, the leader of fictional K-pop girl group HUNTR/X, opened up about her deep emotional connection to the role and the significance of Korean culture.
“Jeong (deep emotional bond), community, and responsibility – these are the heart of Korean sentiment,” said Arden. This project was a personal journey for her, reflecting her Korean-American identity.
The film has quickly gained attention for its authentic portrayal of Korean culture. Arden noted the emphasis on “responsibility” and “respect” within the storyline, showcasing values typical in Korean society.
Arden, born in Texas, often feels torn between her two worlds. “I was overjoyed beyond words,” she expressed regarding her casting. “Even though I’m fluent in English, discrimination followed me,” she revealed.
Food plays a huge role in Arden’s love for Korean culture. Her favorites? Samgyeopsal, kimchi jjigae, and tteokbokki. She joked about gaining weight every time she visits Korea.
“I always gain weight when I come to Korea,” she laughed.
Arden isn’t just an actress; she’s also a singer-songwriter. While she loves many K-pop acts, she named BTS as her favorite, capturing their essence perfectly.
The film’s OST is making waves, hitting No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Arden shared her excitement about the rapid success: “The entire OST is already in the karaoke system!”
