Bang Yedam stirs controversy with new persona DIMO REX and 19+ video
Former TREASURE member Bang Yedam is facing mixed reactions after unveiling his new identity as DIMO REX. Since leaving YG Entertainment in November 2022 to “pursue his career as a producer,” Bang Yedam relaunched his solo career under GF Entertainment. His first album dropped in November 2023, and his latest release came in August 2024.
Now, his 19+ rated video for the track “Like That,” released July 15, 2025 (KST), shows a marked shift from his idol days. The new visuals and genre explore darker, edgier sounds with some scenes sparking confusion and backlash online.
Fans are divided. Some applaud the freedom and creativity:
“OK. You can tell he’s finally breathing freely after leaving the idol life. The song is insane and the video slayed!! Do whatever you want!”
“The song’s f*cking good.”
Others question the direction and style:
“Looks like he left [TREASURE] to do the same old boring stuff.”
“Why is this the only way they know how to show their skills?”
“Is smoking supposed to be cool? Pathetic. Honestly shocked. This is definitely ‘shocking update’ material…and the other comments defending it are ridiculous.”
“Man, he’s too good at singing to be doing this.”
“…? At this rate, we’ll probably be seeing him in the crime section soon.”
Critics point to his visuals, low-budget video feel, and provocative styling reminiscent of Bruno Mars’ smoking scenes. Some remind fans of past controversies:
“Remember the studio hidden camera thing?”
As DIMO REX, Bang Yedam’s latest phase is a risky pivot that’s gaining traction but also skepticism. Fans wonder if this is a permanent shift or experimental detour.
Bang Yedam isn’t alone in leaving TREASURE. Fellow ex-member Mashiho also departed in 2022 and has since undergone a notable transformation.
