BTS’s V and Jungkook Unable to Settle Defamation Lawsuit Against Sojang Operator

V and Jungkook face ongoing controversy as their defamation lawsuit against the YouTube channel Sojang hits another snag.

On July 21 KST, a mediation session took place at the Seoul Western District Court, but no settlement was reached between the BTS members and the channel’s operator, known as A. This means the regular appeal trial will now continue.

The controversy began when A uploaded at least 23 videos on the now-deleted Sojang channel, targeting several celebrities with defamatory content. Now, A is facing civil and criminal charges for defamation.

In March 2023, BigHit Music filed a damages claim for 90 million KRW (around 65,000 USD). The court previously ordered A to pay:

  • 51 million KRW to BigHit Music,
  • 10 million KRW to V,
  • 15 million KRW to Jungkook,

plus interest. However, both sides have appealed this ruling, keeping the legal battle alive.

Stay tuned for updates as this situation unfolds.
