Viral Harsh Critique of BLACKPINK’s “JUMP” Triggers Widespread Response

Scathing Review Of BLACKPINK's "JUMP" Goes Viral, Sparking Major Reactions

BLACKPINK is facing backlash over their latest comeback single “JUMP.” A viral review from IZM hit hard, slamming the group for sticking to the same tired formula despite a long wait.

The review, posted on TheQoo with over 35,000 views and 500 comments, called out BLACKPINK’s track for recycled high-energy build-ups and predictable drops. It said the flashy production and excessive sound layers are more overwhelming than fresh.

The critic claimed the group’s attempt at techno clashed awkwardly with the Western film-inspired intro, creating a “sense of discomfort.” It argued BLACKPINK is stuck in place as a group, even though the members shine in their solo projects.

“They’ve announced their return as a group for the first time in 2 years and 10 months. But despite the long break, their core formula remains unchanged. The typical structure of a rising buildup and drop that we’ve seen countless times reappears once again, along with their signature flashy beats and excessive sound layers. They attempt to shake things up with techno — a genre rarely used in idol music — but it clashes awkwardly with the Western film-inspired intro. The melody layered on the chorus only adds to the dissonance, pushing it to the extreme and creating an overall sense of discomfort. Between consistency and stagnation, the scale clearly tips toward the latter.”

“As long as the song charts, the quality often becomes secondary. This obsession with hits above all else has resulted in a forced kind of addictiveness, filled with flashy, overstimulating sounds. Considering their solo work, which showcased distinctive charm and breathed new life into K-pop, the result here feels all the more disappointing. Unlike the impressive individual endeavors, their repeated formula for group success once again casts a shadow over the industry. While the four stars continue to charge forward, BLACKPINK as a group seems stuck in place, marching in circles.”

Reactions online split. Some fans hailed “JUMP” as hype and exciting. Others agreed the song was uninspired and only popular because it’s BLACKPINK.

Fan comments on TheQoo included:

  • “It’s f**king good lol”
  • “The song sucks.”
  • “It’s hype, but the quality isn’t that great.”
  • “At this point, I don’t even expect anything anymore lol”
  • “The song itself is whatever, but it’s this popular just because it’s BLACKPINK.”

The controversy continues as BLACKPINK rides the chart success but faces growing criticism over their music’s lack of evolution.
