XLOV is shaking up K-pop as the world’s first genderless idol group. The rookie group just debuted with an experimental track that challenges traditional gender norms in the industry.
The members include three Boys Planet contestants: Wumuti, Haru, Rui, and Hyun. They often rock androgynous looks — think skirts over pants, bold accessories, nail art, headpieces, and flashy eye makeup.
Instead of the usual gender binary concept, XLOV embraces fluid fashion and nonconformity. Industry insiders worried the Korean public might not accept this bold move, but early reactions are mostly positive.
“When watching K-Pop, there’s always a member with long hair or over-the-top makeup in boy groups, but I’m fascinated how a group with all the members like that has debuted without much rejection towards them. Well, I’m all for it if the members themselves are fine with it.” – netizen
“The song is really good. Hwaiting.”
“Oh, I like it.”
“The song is good and everyone is good at live singing.”
“They have a really clear concept.”
“It’s not an easy path for them. Cool of them for taking up the challenge.”
Mixed opinions exist online, but many praise XLOV for pushing creative boundaries. In a genre known for innovation, they might be carving out a new space — not by fitting in, but by breaking the mold.
