Kim Tae Hee is facing controversy over her appearance after attending a US premiere.
The “visual queen” of Korean entertainment appeared at the world premiere of the American TV series Butterfly on August 5 in New York City. This marks her official debut in Hollywood.
Kim wore a sleek off-shoulder black mini dress with statement earrings and crystal heels. Her long, wavy hair kept her classic look intact.
However, close-up photos by Getty Images sparked debate. The images showed visible wrinkles around her eyes and mouth. Harsh lighting and angles highlighted her under-eye bags and crow’s feet.
Some photos also made her petite figure look overshadowed by her international castmates.
Fans pushed back, saying Getty Images’ angles are known to be unforgiving.
“Despite its harsh flashes, the actress still appeared beautiful in the pictures.”
Others praised Kim for embracing aging gracefully instead of maintaining a false youthful image.
The six-episode Butterfly is adapted from a graphic novel and also stars Kim Ji Hoon, Park Hae Soo, Lee Il Hwa, and Sung Dong Il.
It will premiere on tvN in South Korea starting August 22, KST.
