HYBE’s New Boy Band CORTIS Faces Major Backlash With Debut Release

HYBE's New Boy Group CORTIS Spark Massive Backlash With Their First Release

CORTIS faces backlash just an hour after dropping their first song “GO!” under HYBE’s BIGHIT MUSIC. Fans are divided, with heavy criticism targeting the song’s autotune and Western rap-style sound.

The five-member group — Martin, James, Juhoon, Seonghyeon, and Keonho — released “GO!” as a pre-release single at midnight KST on August 11. The track is part of their upcoming debut mini album COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES, set to fully release later this month.

“GO!” is setting a controversial tone for CORTIS’s official debut on August 18, when their title track “What You Want” drops. An English version with American artist Teezo Touchdown follows on August 22.

Instead of excitement, “GO!” sparked a wave of negative reactions online. Fans slammed the autotune, calling it overused and off-putting.

“the mv is fine but idk about the song….”

Critics also blasted the group’s “self-producer” marketing, accusing the track of being a “Playboi Carti reject” and “black cosplay.”

“all that ‘self producer and hitmaker’ noise marketing cuz they participated in the production of some hybe groups just for release this playboi carti reject im cryingggg the autotune bro”

“Auto tune piss me off you are not Travis Scott omg”

“the autotune as expected from hybe and nobody is surprised they’re ‘self produced’…the black cosplay too oh hybe…”

Whether the backlash will cool down after their official debut remains uncertain. CORTIS has certainly made a polarizing start.
