SM Idol’s Controversial Actions Spark Resurfacing of Anti-LGBT Sentiments

SM Idol's Anti-LGBT Sentiments Resurface After Recent, Controversial Actions

Siwon faces backlash for hand-holding Jaemin amid past homophobia accusations

Super Junior’s Siwon sparked controversy after fans noticed him holding hands with NCT’s Jaemin during the recent SMTOWN LIVE 2025 Tour dates in Tokyo. While some enjoyed the rare moment between the senior and junior idols, many called out Siwon over his history of homophobic remarks and accused him of “gay for pay” behavior—acting close with male idols for attention.

The controversy reignited old allegations against Siwon. Years ago, he retweeted a tweet denying same-sex marriage rights linked to a U.S. court case involving Kim Davis. Siwon later apologized, saying he shouldn’t have shared that post.

In 2022, Siwon was slammed again after sending a meme on Bubble that mocked transgender people, using a Titanic scene altered to reference being transgender in a way many saw as transphobic.

Beyond these incidents, Siwon’s public support of Israel and former U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump has fueled criticism online.

Twitter users called out the idol with harsh words:

“homophobe being gay4pay i’ve seen it all”
— rainie (@rikatanism)

“I hope everybody in the quotes remembers that siwon is a zionist homophobic piece of shit ”
— (@wr0ngnumbr)

“Jaemin…… Theres a homophobic piece of zionist american propaganda hag of a shit holding your hand i dont wanna alarm u or anything”
— Dan the Orbit (@nielautomata)

“Being a full time zionist and openly homophobe but at the same time do a gay4pay shii on stage ou when will he get stoned”
— THIS IS FOR (@Topekhanbeondeo)

SM Entertainment’s SMTOWN LIVE 2025 Tour in Tokyo wrapped with memorable performances, but Siwon’s past and present actions continue to haunt his image among fans. No official agency comment has emerged so far.
