Well-Known Male K-Pop Idol Ends Relationship Between Korean Couple

A Popular Male K-Pop Idol Broke Up A Korean Couple

INFINITE’s Sunggyu sparks a viral breakup after a woman reveals her boyfriend’s intense obsession with the idol.

A Korean netizen took to Daum’s “Yeosung Sidae” forum to ask if her boyfriend’s fandom for Sunggyu was “normal.” She described him as Sunggyu’s biggest male fan but said his obsession was over-the-top.

She said:

“I mean, it’s not a problem that he’s into a male idol. But it’s kind of over the top. He literally goes to all of Sunggyu’s schedules. And once, he took me to a festival because he was too shy to go alone. While we were there, he was busy taking videos and stuff. He honestly looked happier than when we go on dates…”

Concerned about the depth of her boyfriend’s feelings, she questioned if he might be gay.

The woman later shared screenshots of Bubble messages between her boyfriend and Sunggyu showing a fanboy-level intimacy:

Boyfriend: “Okay, hyung. I’ll be there waiting for you.”
Boyfriend: “I’ll be waiting, hyung. Are we thinking about getting married already?!”
Boyfriend: “OK! Hyung, are you ready to meet my parents, though?”
Boyfriend: “I hope you’re OK with me being 10 years younger than you. But I’m tall and handsome!”
Boyfriend: “Your face is the most interesting, hyung.”
Boyfriend: “You’re the finest and the cutest person in this world, my hyung!”
Boyfriend: “Oh, man… Why am I blushing…? Hyung, your voice is amazing.”

The woman called off a date night to “think,” troubled by her boyfriend’s level of devotion.

When confronted over KakaoTalk, the boyfriend initially found her jealousy “cute” but they quickly fought over her snooping through his phone.

The boyfriend called her a “pervert” and broke up with her, ending with:

Boyfriend: “Maybe I’m just into people better than you.”
Boyfriend: “You know what? I’m just going to block you. Have a good life.”

The post went viral across Korean communities, dividing opinions. Some believed the boyfriend was indeed gay and shouldn’t stay in the relationship. Others condemned the woman for invading his privacy.

Comments included:

  • “Who are you to assume my sexual orientation based on my celebrity biases?”
  • “I don’t find anything wrong with his Bubble messages… Just like female fans do to female idols.”
  • “Good riddance. The boyfriend was right to break up with the woman.”
  • “She’s so rude. It’s all K-Pop stan talk. Glad he broke up with her.”
  • “These screenshots feel fabricated.”

No blame was placed on Sunggyu, although INFINITE fans agreed he’s “simply that irresistible.”

The saga continues to spark debate about fandom, privacy, and relationships in the K-pop world.
