tvN’s Signal 2 delayed for nearly a decade despite hype and fan hopes
The supernatural crime thriller Signal starring Kim Hye Soo, Lee Je Hoon, and Cho Jin Woong premiered in 2016 to sky-high ratings. It became one of the highest-rated Korean cable dramas and won year-end awards.
Fans and cast begged for a second season after the cliffhanger ending. Writer Kim Eun Hee confirmed plans for Signal 2, but slow progress followed.
The controversy began when tvN kept pushing the release back. Early 2017 reports said Signal 2 was "still being discussed" with a hopeful 2018 air date. By 2019, filming was "preparing," but then the network admitted indefinite delays for "various reasons."
Fan favorites like ITZY’s Yeji held out hope, and in interviews, cast members expressed excitement to return.
During a You Quiz on the Block interview, Lee Je Hoon said he wanted Kim Eun Hee to “continue the story.” Both Cho Jin Woong and Kim Hye Soo were open to coming back.
Kim Eun Hee kept busy with other dramas like Kingdom and Revenant, while fans still waited for Signal’s sequel.
And finally, in March 2025, tvN confirmed Signal 2 is officially in the works.
