BOY STORY’s Zihao sparks backlash for visuals on Boys II Planet
BOY STORY member Zihao is facing criticism over his appearance on Boys II Planet. The JYP Entertainment trainee is competing among Chinese contestants on the show’s sequel to Boys Planet.
Zihao, the group’s lead vocalist and dancer, went viral after fans compared him to ONE PACT’s Yoon Jongwoo—whose pre-debut looks were heavily mocked before his transformation. The comparison was meant to insult Zihao’s visuals, triggering a wave of harsh comments.
Several netizens blasted Zihao:
“Don’t even think about debuting.”
“Even Yoon Jongwoo doesn’t look like this anymore — he got everything redone.”
“Born in 2004? Yeah right, stop lying — he’s gotta be ‘84.”
Despite the offensive remarks, fans praised Zihao’s skills on the show. Many highlighted his strong performances and talent.
“He did well in the rap part, while Korean viewers are mad just because he exists. He’s still going to bother a lot of people just for being honest and knowing he actually is talented.” — fan tweet
“OUR ZIHAO YOU DESERVE THE WORLD.” — fan tweet
The controversy unfolded as Boys II Planet launched with 154 contestants, including 41 familiar faces like former idols and survival show participants. The show’s lineup features 14 members to be chosen—7 Korean trainees and 7 Chinese trainees.
Zihao is one of three BOY STORY members competing from China. His visuals and performance have quickly made him a trending topic.
As of now, the backlash continues alongside fan support. No official statements from JYP Entertainment or Mnet have been released.
Boys II Planet is still airing and the visual debate around Zihao remains a hot topic across social media.
