YoonA shocked fans by doing her own Han River dive for Pretty Crazy — no stunt double needed!
Director Lee Sang Geun, who worked with Girls’ Generation’s YoonA again on the K-movie Pretty Crazy, gave details on her hardcore commitment in a recent News1 interview.
Lee called her performance a “truly self-sacrificing performance,” saying YoonA plays dual roles as “Seon Ji by day and Seon Ji by night.” The character’s quirks include intense mukbang scenes featuring chiffon cake and, most notably, a daring jump into the Han River.
The director admitted he was nervous during the shoot because YoonA refused a stunt double and insisted on doing the dive herself.
Lee Sang Geun:
“If you told me to jump in, I don’t think I could do it. I think YoonA was a little worried, too, of course. She knew the depth of the water going in, but you just never know what might happen with the river, so it’s scary. Still, she insisted on doing it herself.”
Lee Sang Geun:
“There were two divers hiding underwater during the scene. Once she jumped in, she would have to get out, dry her hair, and change clothes, etc. So there was only one shot at it. I was sitting far away in a boat in front of the camera, praying it would be captured well. We were both very nervous going at it. But because we had only one chance, we were laser focused, and it worked. It made me think, when we’re desperate, we can do the impossible.”
Lee chose to reteam with YoonA after the success of 2019’s Exit because of “such great memories working with her.”
Pretty Crazy dropped on August 13, 2025 (KST). Early reviews are mixed, but YoonA’s acting has won praise.
