BTS’s Suga stunned fans with his heartfelt work supporting children with autism through Seoul’s Severance Hospital.
After finishing his alternative service, Suga quietly volunteered at the hospital this spring. He donated ₩5.00 billion KRW (about $3.66 million USD) to help build a new treatment center for kids with autism.
In November last year, Suga teamed up with Dr. Cheon Keun Ah, a top child psychiatrist at Severance. Their collaboration birthed the “MIND” program—Music, Interaction, Network, Diversity—a music therapy project designed to boost social and emotional skills for autistic children.
Dr. Cheon recently shared a touching story of a teen in the program who had never played an instrument. The teen grew upset and said,
“I don’t know how to play any instruments…”
Suga stepped in and told the teen,
“Your voice is an instrument too. Looks like you just have to sing then.”
The teen immediately brightened and started singing loudly.
Dr. Cheon said,
“Everyone was so shocked and moved!”
The child later told their mother,
“Mom! Teacher Min said my voice is an instrument. I’m going to sing now!”
The mother shared this with tears during the next session.
Fans flooded social media praising Suga’s empathy and gentleness in this sensitive moment.
Tweets called Suga “an angel” and applauded how his words gave new hope and confidence to the child.
Suga’s deep care in this program highlights a different side of the idol outside of music—one fans are celebrating hard right now.
