QWER is facing backlash over their new gig as models for Woori Bank’s “TeenTeen Card” QWER edition.
Woori Bank announced the prepaid debit card for youths ages 7-18 on June 4. The card can be issued without a bank account.
Consumers and parents quickly opposed the choice of QWER, a girl group made up of former BJs known for provocative outfits during past internet broadcasts.
Past photos of group members from their streamer days have resurfaced, fueling public outrage.
Even some Woori Bank employees voiced their concerns about the decision.
Banks are all about their image, so using former live streamers who went on broadcast with almost no clothes on as models doesn’t seem right. Using them as models for a product targeting teenagers could ruin the company’s reputation.

Experts also weighed in, calling the model choice inappropriate.
The criticism surrounding Woori Bank’s selection is entirely understandable. Marketing to youth should not simply consider the marketing effects, but also the imitation effects and ethical issues that will affect youth.

The controversy continues as parents and consumers express strong disapproval of the group representing a product aimed at minors.
