Lee Yi Kyung is facing backlash over his bad table manners on Hangout With Yoo. The actor admitted on the latest episode that he’s been getting hate for his sloppy noodle slurping. He apologized but insisted he doesn’t actually “eat that way.”
Lee Yi Kyung’s noodle-slurping antics shocked guests like Shim Eun Kyung and Kim Suk Hoon on several past shows. Fans also expressed frustration under MBC’s official video of his latest slurp session.
“Once is enough. Please stop.”
“Stop the noodle slurping. It’s seriously bad manners, ugh.”
“Yi Kyung, please read the comments and stop slurping noodles.”
In the June 14 episode, Yoo Jae Suk joked about Lee’s eating habits, saying,
“It’s because of how he ate.”
He asked,
“So, no mukbang today?”
Lee Yi Kyung replied,
“I’m not eating anything anymore.”
Yoo Jae Suk defended him, saying,
“He’s just a good kid who wanted to make people laugh.”
Meanwhile, viewer opinions are split. Some say Lee was clearly goofing around and shouldn’t take all the hate. Others say bad table manners aren’t a joke.
“There’s no such thing as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ noodle slurping—it’s all just gross and off-putting.”
“Sure, he was trying to be funny, but even Shim Eun Kyung looked visibly uncomfortable, and Kim Suk Hoon was clearly disgusted. You can’t excuse everything just because it’s ‘for laughs.’”
Noodle slurping used to be accepted in Korea as a sign the food was delicious, especially with mukbangs booming. But after actor Lee Jung Jae criticized it as bad manners, the opinion has shifted.
Comedian Lee Young Ja also recently faced criticism for similar noodle-slurping behavior.
