Lee Jun Young turned down an award for stopping a drunk driver, saying it didn’t feel right to accept it.
The actor revealed the story on JTBC’s 한끼합쇼. While leaving work, he noticed a car nearly crash into a guardrail twice. He honked and called the police after the driver ignored warnings.
He chased the car for about an hour until police caught the driver.
Lee Jun Young said:
"While leaving work, the car in front of me almost crashed into the guardrail twice. I honked my horn to warn them, but they didn’t listen, so I called the police station. The police asked me to follow them, so I chased them for about an hour and caught them. I thought it was better for them to hit my car than someone else’s, so I followed them."
Despite public recognition, he refused the award.
He explained:
"Aren’t there many more exemplary and courageous people? I didn’t like receiving it because I am a public figure; I didn’t think that was cool."
Lee Jun Young, known for Weak Hero Class 2, D.P., and Mask Girl, also talked about acting. He said:
"I am shy, but when I act, I realize that I can legally express all my emotions as soon as I hear the director say ‘action’. I’ve been lucky enough to work on many Netflix projects."
He named D.P. as a turning point, sharing a moment of regret from a rooftop fight scene with Jung Haein.
"There was a scene where I fought with actor Jung Haein on the rooftop. I started learning mixed martial arts after because I had so many regrets about the action scene."
