Super Junior K.R.Y’s Ryeowook faces backlash for checking phone lyrics during live cover
Super Junior K.R.Y member Ryeowook got called out online for looking at his phone to sing during a live cover of “When We Were Us” on JAYKEEOUT’s YouTube series BGL: Background Live. A fan tweeted:
"Hey Ryeowook, if this is content for your 20th debut anniversary, then at least memorize the lyrics. Why are you looking at your phone to sing ‘When We Were Us?’" — ddagae
Ryeowook responded respectfully, explaining he knew the lyrics but was nervous about forgetting them while doing live content for the first time.
"I’m sorry. It must’ve been uncomfortable to watch. I know the lyrics, but I looked at my phone because I was nervous that I would forget them. This was supposed to be fun content, but even after singing for 20 years, I was sweating because it was my first time singing a song live while pretending to be a track. Thank you for listening to our music and I hope you have a great day." — Ryeowook
Fans praised Ryeowook for handling the rude comment gracefully, with many pointing out the criticism was unnecessary.
- “But he handled the rude comment respectfully.”
- “The commenter needs to fix their rude personality.”
- “Watching the video, it was totally fine to look at his phone.”
- “There are so many rude people these days…”
- “Ryeowook is too nice, even responding to stupid accounts like that…”
