Na Sanghyun is facing serious backlash after admitting to sexual misconduct but then swiftly reversing his statement. The 30-year-old vocalist of indie band Band Nah first acknowledged the allegations on May 23, apologizing for actions claimed to have occurred during a private drinking event.
The controversy kicked off when an anonymous post surfaced, accusing Na of sexual harassment by touching a woman’s thigh under the pretense of her being drunk. The post claimed, "I’m being vague because I’m afraid it’ll reveal identities. Sorry. Since it happened in private, there’s no evidence."
After the allegations went viral, Na released a statement on social media, expressing remorse but citing memory issues from drinking. He said:
"I am sorry for hurting the person… I will reflect more deeply and work hard to prevent similar incidents in the future."
In the wake of the scandal, Na stepped down from Wendy’s Young Street and did not attend the 17th Seoul Jazz Festival or this year’s Pentaport Rock Festival.
However, on June 2, Na’s agency, January Music, backtracked, insisting there was a misunderstanding. They stated:
"Right after the allegations went public, the artist released a statement based on moral responsibility without the facts being fully verified… We apologize for causing confusion."
January Music indicated they are hiring legal counsel and preparing a formal response. The public is closely monitoring the situation and awaits further developments.
