“I mean, people kept asking when we would get married. So I’d been thinking about it. But one day, my mother-in-law asked to have a meal with me and my wife. The three of us got together and dined in a private room. That’s when she straight-up told me, ‘Listen, Paul. If you don’t put a ring on my daughter in the next three years… I’ll kill ya.’“
He added this wasn’t a joke in the moment:

“Looking back, I’m sure she was kidding. But at the time, I felt like… She was actually intimidating. I knew in my bones that it was a warning, you know? She was basically telling me to break up with her daughter if I wasn’t going to marry her.”
