Moon Taeil is facing outrage after being sentenced to just 3 years and 6 months in prison for aggravated rape.
The former NCT member appeared in court last month for his sex crime case. Moon Taeil and two accomplices were indicted on February 28, 2025, by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office’s Women and Children’s Crime Investigation Division 1. They were charged under the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes for sexually assaulting an intoxicated foreign woman in June 2024.
After the charges were publicized, all three admitted guilt. Prosecutors demanded a 7-year sentence for each perpetrator.
The defense revealed Moon Taeil and the victim reached a settlement and asked for leniency.
On July 10, the court sentenced Taeil to 3 years and 6 months, exactly half of the 7 years sought by prosecutors. He was taken into custody immediately after the verdict.
Netizens are furious over the perceived light sentence.
