Cherry (formerly known as Ryujin of Jwiiver) came out as transgender during an Instagram live on July 19.
The fourth-generation idol revealed,
“This isn’t a hobby, it’s my life.”
“I’m transgender.”
Cherry explained she had to take things slow due to her idol status,
“Because I wasn’t an ordinary person, I couldn’t reveal everything from the start. My goal was to take it slow. I’m just going with my goal.”
She previously described her gender and pronouns as flexible and said she was "just cross-dressing" before publicly sharing her transgender identity.
Jwiiver gained a strong fanbase from their survival show Boys24 but disbanded, leaving many fans saddened.
Support poured in on social media, with fans expressing pride and excitement for Cherry’s openness.
This follows recent trend of 4th-gen idols like JUST B’s Bain coming out, pushing K-pop’s LGBTQ+ visibility forward.
