G-Dragon is catching heat as the face of South Korean AI superapp wrtn, now YouTube’s most hated ad, according to netizens.
The campaign launched June 16, 2025, features G-Dragon repeating phrases like “This is an ad, this is an AI ad” with quirky, almost off-kilter energy. The 15- and 30-second spots focus more on G-Dragon moving the camera around than explaining wrtn’s actual service.
YouTube viewers slammed the ad for being confusing and annoying. Comments include:
“I’m glad I’m not the only one who found this ad so weird.”
“He sounds completely drunk…”
“It’s honestly so bad. Feels like it’s not even G-Dragon, just some AI version of him.”
Despite the backlash, wrtn’s app rankings tell a different story. The app jumped into the Top 40 on Apple’s App Store (#39) and Top 25 on Google Play (#21), up from unranked in 2024.
So, while YouTube users hate the ad, G-Dragon’s campaign clearly drove downloads.
“This is an ad. An ad. It’s an ad. It’s— It’s an advertisement for an AI. A, I. The name is… Not Louie, not Lee, but Wri-tten…”
— G-Dragon“I only use this one. I like it. Wr-i. Written. To make that easier… What word starts with the sound wri-? Wrtn, wrtn, wrtn, wrtn, AI wrtn. Really.”
— G-Dragon
Wrtn is currently running a campaign with G-Dragon, with events scheduled through August, including unreleased cuts, merchandise, and photo card giveaways.
Fans and critics alike are watching to see if wrtn can turn this controversial campaign into sustained success.
