Hit Netflix K-Drama Faces Major Backlash Over Noticeable Production Error

Popular Netflix K-Drama Sparks Huge Controversy After Viewers Catch "Absurd" Production Mistake

Netflix’s new historical K-drama Bon Appétit Your Majesty is facing backlash over a major production error.

A key banner in the show was supposed to display the phrase Tae Pyeong Seong Dae (太平聖代), meaning a peaceful and prosperous era. Instead, the last character was wrong. It showed the character for “large” (大) instead of the one meaning “era” (代).

Viewers quickly caught the mistake, sparking outrage online. The error went viral as fans slammed the production team for what they called a basic and absurd oversight.

Many accused the crew of being “illiterate” for not getting the Hanja correct in a historical drama.

“Hey, you said you were making a historical drama, but the production team and director are illiterate and can’t even write ‘tae pyeong seong dae’ in Hanja correctly.”

“Can I get a large ‘tae pyeong seong dae’ please?”

“From preparing the props, directing, filming, to airing… Did no one really notice?!”

The controversy blew up on Korean forums like TheQoo, with comments mocking the production’s lack of basic fact-checking.

“It feels like a lie that no one noticed this… If they caught it while editing, they could’ve at least CGI-ed it.”
— TheQoo user

“Even just pressing the Hanja conversion in Hangul would have given them the right version.”
— TheQoo user

“You can just look it up on Naver, it’s really absurd.”
— TheQoo user

“I’m losing it, this is so pathetic… If you don’t even know this basic stuff, just don’t use Hanja at all…”
— TheQoo user

So far, the show’s creators have not addressed the mistake. Meanwhile, Bon Appétit Your Majesty continues to rake in strong viewership numbers in South Korea, the US, and the UK despite the backlash. Fans remain divided between praising the show’s success and criticizing its sloppy production.
