Sandara Park opens up about 2NE1’s heartbreaking final days amid disbandment rumors.
During an interview, Sandara revealed the group’s turmoil while recording their last album CRUSH. She said the agency told them, "2NE1 is over now," as their singles weren’t performing well.
Sandara recalled:
"The company said 2NE1 is over now. I think we were No. 10 on the chart? We were always No. 1, but now we were No. 10. We were sad, and the fans and the agency were sad too."
She described a tough conversation with YG Entertainment where an exec said:
"This album isn’t going to work. Let’s stop promoting now."
Uncertainty hit hard during the recording of “MISSING YOU,” whose lyrics felt like a breakup anthem. Sandara shared:
"I’m not sure if it was a joke or something he said because he was upset, but we went to record ‘MISSING YOU’ after we shared that conversation and the last lyrics were too much like breaking up."
The emotional weight brought Sandara and Park Bom to tears in the studio:
"Bom and I cried for hours in the recording studio."
Despite the pressure, “MISSING YOU” climbed to No. 1, giving the group a bittersweet win and a final moment to promote their music together.
Though CRUSH ended up being their last album before disbanding, fans may find hope. YG Entertainment has been working with the members on a 2024 reunion, and 2NE1 just wrapped up their WELCOME BACK Tour.
