BIGBANG G-Dragon is facing major ticket fraud and scalping controversies ahead of his Hong Kong concert.
Hong Kong police have received over 30 reports of ticket fraud linked to the concert at AsiaWorld Arena from August 8 to 10. The total reported loss is HK$610,000 (~$78,151.98 USD).
Victims were tricked by scammers on social media like Facebook. They lost money after being told to pay additional deposits. One victim was scammed for HK$180,000 (~$22,930.20 USD).
This is G-Dragon’s first Hong Kong show in eight years. The concert sold out immediately, sparking a surge in scalping with ticket prices soaring two to five times higher than usual.
Similar problems are happening in other regions. In Taiwan, a scalper was caught buying tickets in bulk and inflating prices. Authorities there are investigating.
G-Dragon is currently on his world tour, Übermensch, which started in May.
“Victims reportedly contacted the scammer after seeing ticket sale posts on social media platforms like Facebook, only to be tricked into sending additional money after being told that an additional deposit was required.”
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as fans deal with skyrocketing prices and fraud ahead of the shows.
