Maggie Kang is facing controversy over her comments about K-Pop Demon Hunters.
The director revealed that early storyboards included scenes from the iconic Idol Star Athletics Championship (ISAC). In those drafts, characters Rumi and Jinu discussed demon marks in the setting of the athletic event.
"When we cut that scene in, all the executives were like, ‘What is this? Why are they suddenly doing the Olympics and running hurdles and doing archery?’" said Kang.
According to her, the ISAC scene was scrapped because it might confuse global audiences. Instead, it was replaced with a fan signing event.
Illustrator Henry Wong teased fans with a glimpse of how ISAC might have looked in the show’s universe. Check out his posts below:
Fans quickly responded, sharing their thoughts on the situation. Some comments include:
"I get why the Sony Pictures execs were thrown off kekekekeke."
"They should have put the scene where Rumi shoots a perfect 10 in archery and breaks the camera lens!! Kekekeke."
Others chimed in, saying:
"ISAC would have been fun to see kekekekeke."
"Okay let’s put the ISAC scene back in during season 2!!"
Fans are definitely interested in seeing what could have been! Will the ISAC concept make a comeback in future episodes? Stay tuned!
