BLACKPINK’s Jennie wins court battle against man claiming to be her biological father.
The Uijeongbu District Court’s Goyang branch ruled on May 9, 2025, ordering the destruction of a book falsely claiming Jennie is the author’s biological daughter. The court said the book violated Jennie’s privacy and spread false information.
The lawsuit targeted a man identified as Mr. A and his publishing company. Jennie sought a ban on the book’s distribution and the removal of related posts from platforms like KakaoTalk, social media, and websites. The court also barred Mr. A from future statements on the matter or media interviews.
Despite Mr. A’s insistence that he is Jennie’s biological father, Jennie’s legal team presented an official family registry naming a third party as her legal father. The court accepted this evidence and rejected Mr. A’s claim.
The controversy started in August 2024 when Korean outlet Job Post reported that Mr. A, revealed as PD Kim Hyung Jin, published a novel titled World Informant based on Jennie’s life. The book included fictional scenes with Jennie and singer PSY in AI simulations.
In December 2024, Jennie’s agency warned fans about false publications and fake news spreading online. Mr. Kim’s self-description as a former terrestrial network PD and illegitimate child of a conglomerate founder heightened skepticism. Jennie has publicly stated she was raised solely by her mother.
The court ruling reinforces Jennie’s stance against misinformation and protects her from further reputational harm.
"The book constituted a violation of Jennie’s privacy and spread false information," said the court.
Jennie’s legal team supplied an official family registry that identified a third party as her legal father.
Mr. A must destroy all copies of the book and erase all claims. He is banned from future commentary or interviews about Jennie. The saga ends with Jennie’s privacy and reputation legally defended.
