Oh Jimin shocks fans by quitting idol life to become a paint contractor.
The former BTL member opened up on KBS Joy’s Mueosideon Muleobosal, revealing he’s now a paint technician working in construction.
Oh Jimin said BTL disbanded abruptly while filming their second album’s music video. “My original dream was to be an actor. So I went to the department of theater and film to study. I then debuted as an idol, but it didn’t go well,” he admitted.
He also shared personal details about becoming a dad early. His wife got pregnant while he was unmarried and serving in the military. Now, they have two sons, aged five years and 15 months.
When asked about his earnings, Oh said he makes ₩12 million to ₩15 million KRW ($8,800-$11,000 USD) in peak season, but only about ₩2 million KRW ($1,470 USD) during off-season.
He revealed struggling financially at first.
“I had nothing, so I borrowed money to start my wife’s cafe and carry out our newlywed life. We’re currently paying off the loan,” he explained.
Despite the switch, Oh Jimin says he’s nearly “120%” satisfied with his new career for its work-life balance.
“The best thing is that I have work-life balance and can spend time with my kids,” he added.
