KISS OF LIFE’s Julie Addresses Controversial Livestream
Julie from KISS OF LIFE is facing backlash after a controversial birthday livestream.
The group was criticized for cultural appropriation, with imagery and behaviors that many fans deemed offensive. Belle notably donned attire typical of the Latino Cholo subculture and humorously called herself “Taco Belle.”
Despite apologies from their agency and the group, fans felt the responses fell short.
As the controversy gained traction, support for KISS OF LIFE plummeted, leading to their appearance at KCON LA being canceled.
On May 31, Julie took to Instagram to clarify the situation. She stated they wanted to tread carefully and wait until all members had completed their birthday streams.
Julie emphasized accountability, directly apologizing to the Black and Latino communities while pledging that they are committed to "be better."
“This apology will probably be accepted way quicker than the last two because it feels more genuine and she addressed the communities she hurt directly,” a fan noted on Twitter.
However, critics argue the apology comes too late, suggesting it’s a strategic move ahead of the group’s upcoming comeback.
“You let the bitter taste settle and now I can’t see the group the same,” one user tweeted.
Julie’s acknowledgment of the affected communities is a step forward, but whether fans accept the apology remains to be seen.
