Celine Dahyeu Kim slams Sony executive for discrimination during KPop Demon Hunters production.
The Netflix animated hit’s art director revealed she left after a “high-ranking official in the production” repeatedly dismissed her work and treated the art team with discriminatory behavior. Kim said both the production designer and character art director also quit due to the same treatment.
Kim posted an image of a crying animated character, writing, “This was exactly how I looked when I left the company,” and added she won’t be called back even if there’s a sequel.
She made clear the rest of the company was supportive and listened to her complaints.
Kim expressed pride in the movie despite the controversy:
I hope this thread never affects your enjoyment of the movie. More than 90% of my efforts were wonderfully expressed in the movie, and as you can see in the ending credits, it is a meaningful work created by hundreds of people coming together with one heart and one mind.
— Celine Dahyeu Kim
Reports say the Sony official in question has resigned. Kim wrote she never wishes to cross paths with them again.
Meanwhile, KPop Demon Hunters continues its global success, ranking 1st in 41 countries since release.
